So, today I had a meeting with the investigator in charge of an AMAZING lab, and he gave me 5 big projects to choose between, but I need to decide which one to make my very own for the summer! Here are the topics, tell me what you think!
Topic 1: Mechanisms of Methamphetamine addiction, and the effect of in utero exposure to viruses on predisposition to addiction/psychotic behavior.
Topic 2: Subtypes of Schizophrenia: a comparison of genetic factors predicting each type, associated-behaviors, and treat-ability with anti-psychotic medications.
Topic 3: Drug-resistant malaria, and the development of new drugs to kill resistant strains. Involves a side project on the neurological/psychological side effects of malaria meds.
Topic 4: Testing of lab-engineered pharmaceuticals: binding properties and effects in animal models.
Topic 5: Genetic induction of specific types of receptors during development - excellent potential for drug therapy.
I have left these all a little vague on purpose - there’s no way I’m getting scooped before I even start this project!
